Wrapping Up the Posie Parker case, We hope

I’m a regular watcher of Sky News Australia. Not that I watch umpteen hours a day. There is a Sunday morning panel show, named Outsiders, three presenters. Their title is a backhanded compliment to the opposition ABC Australia programme named Insiders.

Outsiders covered the issue from both Australian and New Zealand perspectives. They were as appalled as could be over the Auckland nonsense. There was a point raised which some of us might not have fully considered. It was that some sections of the Australian lesbian community at least did not wish to be associated in any way with the trans-activists.

Just in passing, I came across a Daily Mail UK article about an employment dispute involving an arts officer who was hounded out of her job after advocating for both freedom of speech and for the rights of an LGB group. Rather a complicated story. The LGB group in the UK does not want to associate with trans-activists. The LGB group was accused of being a glorified hate group and having neo-Nazi supporters. The UK story confirms the points made by the Sky Aust programme. [LGB Lesbian Gay Bisexual, UK title LGB Alliance]. The Arts employer is the Arts Council England ACE.

Posie Parker was accused of gaining the support of neo-Nazis. So it seems that wherever we go in this gender/sex argument there are Nazi accusations in all directions. Accusing someone of Nazism is about as bad as it gets.

A commenter invited to the Sky Aust show made a semi-humorous point in comparing Auckland to a witch hunt. That was Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull arrived in Auckland in 2023 but woke up in Salem 1692. The witch hunt label will no doubt be thrown around by both sides of the debate.

Another media comment. Jack Tame’s Q&A (TV1, Sunday 26 March) interviewed Carmel Sepuloni with some very soft questioning on the Auckland brouhaha. Sepuloni was scathing of Keen-Minshull to the extent that she congratulated and praised the “whanau” who protested. Sepuloni did not wish to consider Keen-Minshull in any context, not even wanting to mention her name. Closed it off by saying Keen-Minshull was quote “ridiculous” and was “nothing” to Sepuloni.

Sepuloni did not condemn the violence, or comment on any other adverse aspects of the event. Shame on Sepuloni. Jack Tame did not pursue Sepuloni at all and in interview terms seemed to be guiding her towards the “off ramps”. We can now expect Labour and the media to close ranks and the issue will be quickly wound down to save embarrassment.

There is a complaint in progress addressed to the IPCA (Independent Police Complaints Authority). I think the complaint is being made by the NZ Speak up for Women group. The ICPA will probably string it out so as to avoid this year’s election campaigning.

I'm as confused as anyone about where the gender/sex dispute might get to. It looks as if for the moment the trans-activists have seized the agenda with Labour and National  politicians all following along like sheep, goats maybe.

I will have a note on my calendar to come back to the issue prior to the election.

Finally if anyone wants to read one of the real stories of that day try Kiwi Blog. One very brave lady who was in the middle of the chaos has written the guest post here. Semi long read but worth the time :
